A client expressed a
“problem” with her condo. There was no window over
the sink
in her kitchen, and this made her feel somewhat
“claustrophobic.” She wanted a faux window
and was
wondering if we could make one in tile. She wanted it to be cleanable.
As we didn’t
happen to
have “a fake window with a view of a country scene leading
into a
pond” available in our art collection, we decided to make
one.
You may have heard echoes of frustration throughout Barrie at that
point of the learning curve, but as per usual, the
“problem” fired us to find a solution.

The above graphic is the first faux window we made, sized for a
30.1” x 17.2” mural in Photoshop. The image was
taken from
a photo taken downtown on the side of the road. It really
isn’t
much of a pond, and the original picture is only one side of a pond,
but it is mirrored in the faux window to give the illusion of a lush
pond. Initially, a wood finish frame was used for the window, but as
the client’s existing windows are white, it was altered to
match
the décor.
The client suggested a view over the ocean and the window
pictured below came to life. It was when I lived in Mexico I knew I was
in
love with brilliant colour and lush landscapes. The first picture was taken
from a friend's window in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. The second picture is now her kitchen :)
